June, 2016 – The Osofsky family – Freddi, Rick, Ronny and Sid – have protected their family-owned 185-acre Schultz Hill Farm (part of the Ronnybrook Dairy), on Schultz Hill Road in Pine Plains, through the DLC’s purchase of development rights program, in partnership with Scenic Hudson. This portion of their farm will now remain open and available for farming for current and future generations. Thanks to families like the Osofskys, and to your generous support, the DLC has now preserved 39,930 acres of open land!

Known as the “Home Farm”, Schultz Hill Farm is where David and Helen Osofsky first started Ronnybrook Dairy in 1941, naming it for their eldest son Ronny, one of the four siblings/current owners. The Home Farm is an integral part of the multi-county Ronnybrook Dairy operation and provides critical support through the pasturing of cows and heifers and the growing of corn, hay, and soy.

Conservation of the farm contributes to safeguarding the region’s “foodshed” – the farms that supply Hudson Valley communities and New York City with fresh, local, high quality food. The Dairy is also a significant component of the regional economic engine and employs more than 50 full time permanent staff.
