Planning for the Future of Your Land

Join Dutchess Land Conservancy, Cornell Cooperative Extension Dutchess County, Dutchess County Soil and Water Conservation District, and Forest All Consulting for a workshop and breakout sessions on Land Protection, Agriculture, Water Resources and Forest resources. Learn about programs and technical assistance available to Dutchess County Residents from local specialists and organizations. Refreshments will be included.

After a brief introduction to each topic and organization, concurrent breakout sessions allow participants to learn in more detail the programs and resources available for landowners:

    Agriculture– led by Agricultural Navigator Jen Fimbel from Cornell Cooperative Extension, this session will explain agricultural value assessments and the agricultural districts, resources for beginning farmers, soil testing and management, and highlights from Dutchess County’s Agriculture and Farmland Protection Plan.

    Water Resources – led by Brian Scoralick and Tonnie Sauca from the Dutchess County Soil and Water Conservation District, this session will provide details on the District’s services and technical assistance programs, focusing on pond assistance and streambank stabilization guidance. This session will highlight some of the evaluations, options, design guidelines, and regulatory responsibilities when it comes to tackling a pond or stream related project.

    Land Protection – led by Karin Roux from the Dutchess Land Conservancy, this session will provide details on conservation easements and the tax benefits of land conservation; farmland protection options such as Purchase of Development Rights; conservation land planning and easement stewardship; and the compatibility of land conservation with agriculture and forestry.

    Forestry – led by Brent Feldweg of Forest All Consulting, this session will discuss forest health and management, working with an arborist/forester, the 480a Forest Tax Law program, as well as explain the Ag Value Assessment with Forestry under 50 acres.
