On Saturday, May 21, the DLC teamed with The Nature Conservancy and a group of hard-working volunteers for some trail work at the Thompson Pond Preserve in Pine Plains.
Bridge building was the order of the day, necessary to keep hikers' feet from causing harm to a sensitive ecosystem and to prevent erosion. Volunteers also learned a great deal about how trails connect us with nature, how they're maintained, and why proper trail development is important for protecting ecosystem function. This event was the first of a series of trail building and maintenance workshops that the DLC will be holding with The Nature Conservancy at Thompson Pond Preserve.
