Buttercup Farm Habitat Clean Up News 2On a grand summer evening, dozens of interested attendees arrived at the Buttercup Farm Audubon Sanctuary in Stanfordville to learn about and witness the nighttime habits of Dutchess County's moths. After a fascinating opening discussion with local lepidopterist Matthew Rymkiewicz, the participants eagerly traversed the trail to the two moth viewing stations to get a look at the mysterious nightly visitors. As twilight turned to darkness, the gathered guests watched with amazement as moths began to flutter into view, attracted by the black lights. Matthew's enthusiasm at each new arrival was infectious, and attendees gave him their complete wide-eyed attention as he explained the characteristics of the various tiger, clymene, and geometer moths that appeared. It was a magical summer night filled with wonder and science.
