Explore Stissing News 1DLC volunteers planted 230 native trees and shrubs to improve riparian health on the banks of the Ten Mile River in Dover Plains.

Dozens of volunteers came out on a gorgeous early May morning to prevent erosion along the banks of the Ten Mile River. Working in the sandy soil in the flood zone of the river as it flows through Ketcham Park in Dover Plains, enthusiastic volunteers planted 230 native trees and shrubs, helping to shore up the river bank. The Ten Mile River is a crucial portion of the Housatonic River watershed in eastern Dutchess County. They finished the planting so quickly the volunteers were able to remove invasive plants as well, including Garlic Mustard and Mugwort. The project was the result of a collaboration between the DLC, the Town of Dover, the Housatonic Valley Association, and the Dutchess County Soil & Water Conservation District.
