DLC Volunteers work to improve the forest at Sisters Hill Woods Preserve.
Burning Bush is a particularly pernicious invasive plant in our area. So, when Winnakee Land Trust and the DLC met to figure out how we could work together, the Burning Bush at our fellow land conservation organization's Sisters Hill Woods Preserve in Stanfordville was an obvious choice. The DLC reached out to its growing group of volunteers and they responded with gusto! They chopped, hacked, and pulled mounds of the non-native plant from the forest floor, and many other invasives they came across as well. It was hard but rewarding work for young and old alike. When the work day was done, they could look with pride at a forest now rejuvenated and ready for native plants to come in and bring it back to vibrancy. A heartfelt thank you and round of applause for all our volunteers and what they accomplished on a hot summer day.
